Our Pork Sausages & Puddings

Hodgins Foods is a family run business nestling in the Galtee mountains outside Mitchelstown. Mervin, started life as a craft butcher making his own pork sausages based on a time honoured recipe passed down through generations of butchers. Mervin selling these pork sausages, black puddings and white puddings to his own customers, word soon spread about the quality and taste, people were travelling to Mitchelstown from further afield to buy them.

As they grew in popularity, other butchers and supermarkets started to order them and over a few short years, Mervin could not keep up with the pace of demand from his original shop. The dream grew bigger and he moved to a new premises which was dedicated to making pork sausages, black puddings and white puddings.

Low Fat SausagesToday, this family-run business that nestles in the rolling hills outside of Michelstown, County Cork, is Bord Bia approved using only 100% Irish Pork produced by Irish Farmers. Hodgins continues to use their time-honoured traditional recipe. Hodgins sausages combine finest quality Irish pork with a tasty blend of spices and have won many awards. Mervin’s dream has come true. But it hasn’t stopped there.

Over 30 people now work for Mervin and Monica in their state of the art facility. They all share their dream and commitment to producing the best sausages in Ireland.

Hodgins Sausages have won numerous prestigious food awards. The gluten-free sausages, traditional and flavoured sausages all received national recognition and both the sausages and puddings have received Gold and Silver awards at the Associated Craft Butchers of Ireland national sausage competition over many years. At the Great Taste awards in 2008, the black puddings picked up three gold stars in 2008.

Hodgins Sausages has also been shortlisted as a finalist in the Small Firms’ Association National Small Business Awards 2012. The aim of the awards is to celebrate the achievements of small business in Ireland, and to recognise the vital contribution of the small business sector to Irish industry.
